HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1974-061-R-74Amended September 16, 1974 • 61-R- 74 RESOLUTION F Endorsing the Continuation of the General Revenue Sharing Program 0 • WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has been receiving fiscal assistance through the allocation of federal dollars under the General Revenue Sharing program; and WHEREAS, these Revenue Sharing dollars are received di- rectly from the federal government with a minimum of redtape which enables the City of Evanston to meet the locally determined priority needs of the community; and WHEREAS, the General Revenue. Sharing Program is providing essential fiscal assis-tance to the City of Evanston in its ef- forts to continue to provide essential services to the community; and WHEREAS, the General Revenue Sharing Program, which began in 1972, will terminate in 1976 unless the 94th Congress, which is being elected this November and will convene in January of 1975",..authorizes an extension of the General Revenue Sharing Pro- gram;" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of.Evanston endorses the continuation of the General -Revenue Sharing -program and calls upon the 94th Congress to re-enact some General..Revenue Sharing program in order to insure that this fed- eral assistance will be provided to the City of Evanston; A 61-R- 74 f -2 /� - • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives from the loth District and the candidate for the U.S. Senate from the State of Illinois, be requested to publicly state their support for the re-enactment of some General Revenue Sharing program in order for the citizens of Evanston to be informed of their commitment, or lack thereof, to this essen- tial federal assistance program. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be immediately forwarded to said Congressional candidates. NZ Mayor t l� Attest: City Clerk
