HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1974-030-R-74r S t Revised 5/24/74 Adopted 5/28/74 RESOLUTION 30-R-74 WHEREAS, the staff of Coumunity Consolidated School District 65 on April 25, 1974 announced a proposal to close three elementary schools, including two elementary schools in Evanston and subse- quently amended that proposal to enable further study; and WHEREAS, the maintenance of convenient and readily accessible .elementary schools is important to the safety and welfare of the school children who attend said schools; and • WHEREAS, the maintenance of convenient and readily accessible elementary schools is one of the most important facts in making the homes in a community attractive to residents and prospective buyers; and WHEREAS, a decrease in the number and accessibility of elemen- tary schools may have adverse effects on the City of Evanston; including the possibility of neighborhood and legal pressure to change the character of affected neighborhoods by rezoning to higher density or other uses; and WHEREAS, it appears other options may be available to conserve the financial resources of the District: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the ity of Evanston urges the Board of Education of Community Consoli- dated School District 65 to give careful consideration to its staff . 4 30-R-74 -2- recommendation to close elementary schools and consider in addition: a. The feasibility of alternative plans which would include as an element thereof the maintenance of all existing elementary schools; and b. Consider its plans for disposition and use of elementary schools in the event it becomes necessary to close any of said schools, including any zoning variations contemplated by subsequent use; and • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager -of the City of Evanston be authorized and empowered to lend City of Evanston staff ,assistance to said Board of Education for the purpose of assessing the impact of the aforesaid proposal, or such other proposals as have been, or may hereafter be proposed. • t� � i1.lt.�tc<� /�'1t ii�v. .
