HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1975-022-R-75RESOLUTION 22-R-75 • WHEREAS, it is the ongoing responsibility of the State of Illinois to provide General Assistance to eligible persons; and WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has developed statewide regulations specifying the grant levels for General Assistance as administered by the Illinois Department of Public Aid; and WHEREAS, in these inflationary times, the lower income citizens of the State of Illinois are undergoing severe economic plight; and WHEREAS, the State of Illinois General Assistance levels are not providing a satisfactory standard of living for the clients: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Evanston urges that: 1. The State of Illinois increase the General Assistance grant levels for public aid recipients. 2. The State of Illinois permit supplementing of the State's General Assistance grant levels by local communities without this supplement being deducted from the State's general assistance client grant level. 3. That the State of Illinois recognize.the high rental costs for housing in Evanston and other higher living cost communities and, in so doing, permit an increase in State General Assistance rental levels for clients in these communities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be trans- mitted to the Department of Public Aid and to the Legislators representing Evanston in the General Assembly.
