Home My WebLink AboutRESOLUTIONS-1976-068-R-7668-R-76 RESOLUTION Designating November 20, 1976 as Evanston • Town Meeting Day 0 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Evanston to promote the possibilities of community among its citizens; and WHEREAS, the City Council further finds that engaging creative participa- tion of community residents is essential for a functioning democracy; and WHEREAS, the nation is celebrating the AMERICAN BICENTENNIAL; and WHEREAS, historically town meetings were used to hear citizens concerns and enable their involvement in shaping the community's future; and WHEREAS, the Evanston Ecumenical Action Council through a representative Steering Committee is coordinating a One Day Community Gathering: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, that Saturday, November 20, 1976 be and hereby it is 1 • designated EVANSTON TOWN MEETING DAY to be held at Evanston Township High School between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. BE .IT FURTHER RESOLVED that whosoever attends will actively participate in creating the future of this community and the nation. _ /s/ Edgar Vanneman, Jr. Mayor ATTEST: /s/ Maurice F.
