HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1976-058-R-7658-R-76 RESOLUTION • Accepting Funds Awarded and Donated to the City of'Evanston in Connection with the National Endowment for the Arts Program WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has been awarded a Grant in the amount of thirteen thousand dollars.($13,000) by the National Endowment for the Arts to support the Evanston Art Center's project to commission a sculpture by Richard Hunt to be located in Cartwright Park; and WHEREAS, it is a condition of this Grant that endowment funds provided may not exceed 50 percent of the total cost of the project; and WHEREAS, the Cartwright Foundation has pledged, promised • and agreed to contribute a sum of money to be determined upon the selection of the sculpture pursuant to the conditions of the Grant award and City of Evanston resolution, 66-R-75, said sum so pledged to be no less than thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000) as set forth in Exhibit A entitled "Cartwright Foundation Agreement" attached hereto and hereby made a part hereof; and WHEREAS, the aforesaid Cartwright Foundation Agreement is contingent upon the acceptance by the City of Evanston of the aforementioned Grant and of the monies pledged therein; and WHEREAS, the Selection Committee appointed by the Mayor pursuant to Resolution 66-R-75 has entered into negotiations with Richard Hunt to commission such sculpture; and . WHEREAS, Richard Hunt has agreed to create said sculpture, the design of which has been approved by said Selection Committee, for a contract price of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000), said price to include any applicable sales or use taxes, and - 2 - WHEREAS, said sculpture would be constructed of welded 0 bronze and would be delivered and installed no later than July 30, 1977; and WHEREAS, the City's participation in said project shall be limited to: 1. An in -kind donation of services not to exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000), to prepare the site to receive the sculpture; and 2. The administration of the funds donated by the Cartwright Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts for the project; and WHEREAS, the Selection Committee has recommended that a contract implementing the above provisions be executed by and between the City of Evanston and Richard Hunt: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE • CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, that the City of Evanston hereby_ accepts Grant R-60-41-368C in.the amount of thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000) from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the Evanston Art Center's project to commission'a sculpture by Richard Hunt to be located in Cartwright Park, pursuant to the provisions set out in application A13090-76, dated December 20, 1975. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Evanston hereby 1 i ,accepts the sum of money pledged by the Cartwright Foundation in ;accordance with the terms and conditions set out in the Cartwright Foundation Agreement attached hereto as Exhibit A, said sum to be ,,,no less than thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000). I� f! p - 3 - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is hereby • authorized and directed to execute a contract implementing the provisions set out hereinabove with Richard Hunt for a sculpture to be created and placed in Cartwright Park. Brown City Clerk • [7 Mayor EXHIBIT A • - CARTWRIGHT FOUNDATION AGREEMENT In consideration of the acceptance by the City of Evanston (hereafter, "City") of Grant R60-41-368C in the amount of Thirteen Thousand Dollars ($13,000.00) from the National Endowment for the Arts (hereafter "NEV) to support the Evanston Art Center's project to commission a sculpture by Richard Hunt to be located in Cartwright Park pursuant to the provisions set out in application #A13090-76 dated December 20, 1975, the Cartwright Foundation (hereafter "Foundation") hereby pledges, promises and agrees,to contribute a sum of money to be determined upon the selection of the sculpture pursuant to the conditions of the grant award and City of Evanston Resolu- tion 66-R-75; provided, however, that the sum so pledged and paid to the City shall not be less than Thirteen Thousand Dollars ($13,000.00),'provided further that the money so pledged will be paid to the City pursuant to such terms for payment as shall be established by. the Foundation and the City. In any case, however, the � Foundation shall make a minimum payment of the Thirteen.Thousand Dollars ($13,000.00) • to the City no later than thirty (30) days after the.placement of the sculpture in Cartwright Park.
