{ A RESOLUTION
Upon The Occasion
Of The Retirement Of
Alderman Peter D: Jans
WHEREAS, Alderman Peter D. Jans, upholding a family tradition of
service dating back to the election of Alderman Peter.N. Jans, his father, who
served the Fifth Ward from 1924 through 1933, has himself served as Alderman
of the Seventh Ward of the City of Evanston during the years 1965 through 1977;
and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Alderman, he served as Chairman and/or
member of,the'Municipal Services Committee, the Planning and 'Development
Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the City Manager's Selection
Committee, the Canvassing Committee, the Recount Committee, the Committee on
• !Committees, the City Chamber Committee, the Crown Center Committee, the Council
Committee for Study of Mayor's Position, and Mayor Pro tempore; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Peter D. Jans, through his dedicated efforts on
the Economic Development Committee and other work in the area, has enhanced
the economic and fiscal base of Evanston including his work on the Holiday Inn
development, the liquor law changes, the Planned Development Ordinance, the
State National Bank Plaza Development, the American Plaza Development, the
Business District Redevelopment Ordinance, and the Comprehensive General Plan;
and
WHEREAS, Alderman Peter D. Jans has given outstanding service on
behalf of Evanston and its taxpayers in many other areas, including recommen-
dations for the financing of the West End Development, by chairing the Com-
• mittee for the Development of the Crown Center among many other accomplish-
ments; and

• WHEREAS, he also served as acting Mayor of the City of Evanston
during the months of May through November, 1970; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Peter D. Jans_has served the citizens of his Ward,
as well as the citizens of the entire City, with distinction, giving most
liberally of his time, energy and ability:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Evanston on behalf of itself, the Mayor, City Manager, City Officials, and the
residents of this Community, do hereby express great appreciation to Alderman
Peter D. Jans for his service to the City of Evanston, and regret the occasion
of his retirement as Alderman.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be made a part of the
• permanent records of the City of Evanston and that a copy, executed by the
Mayor and attested by the City Clerk be sent to the said Alderman Peter D. Jans.
