HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1977-015-R-7715-R-77 A RESOLUTION Upon The Occasion Of The Retirement Of Mayor Edgar Vanneman, Jr. WHEREAS, Mayor Edgar Vanneman, Jr. has served as the Mayor of the City of Evanston since November 3, 1970; and WHEREAS, prior to election to Mayor of the City of Evanston, Mayor Edgar Vanneman, Jr. served as Alde Tian of tide Seventh Ward of -the City of Evanston during the years 1957 through 1965, serving as Chairman of the Plan- ning and Development committee during the period when it developed the compre- hensive amendment to the Zoning Ordinance, and serving as Chairman of the Committee which led to the creation of the Human Relations Commission, and also the Committee which accomplished a major revision of the City's Wards; and '0 WHEREAS, he also served on the Evanston Zoning Board of Appeals, the Board of .tree North East.(Lighthouse) Park District, and on the Board of School District #202; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as Mayor of the City of Evanston, Edgar Vanneman, Jr. has served the citizens of the City of Evanston with distinction, giving most liberally of his time, energy and ability; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as Mayor he served as Chairman and/or member of many regional boards and commissions, including the Cook County Council of Governments, the Illinois Municipal League Northeastern Illinois Committee, the North Shore Mayors Council of the Chicago Area Transportation Study, the Lake Michigan Shoreline Advisory Committee, the Regional Housing Coalition, and the Regional Health Service Agency. His direct contributions in these areas involved work toward the passage of the Regional Transit Author" 15-R-77 ity Act and Referendum, work: on anti -social behavior of youth, work toward pension reforms, funding for Evanston street and bridge projects, regional housing responsibilities, community cooperative purchasing, and many others; an('. WHk=REAS, during his tenure as Mayor, the City of Evanston.has' made substantial progress in many areas, including but not limited to, economic development, environmental matters, financial stability, effectiveness of Boards and Commissions, improved transportation services, housing, child care, and programs for senior citizens. During this period the City was cited on two occasions by national publications as one of the outstanding suburbs in the United States: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Evanston on behalf of itself, the City Manager, City Officials, and the resi-dents of this Community, do hereby express great appreciation to klayor Edgar Vanneman, Jr. for his service to the City.of Evanston, and regret the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the City of Evanston. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be made a part of the per- manent records of the City of Evanston and that a copy, executed by the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk, be sent to the said Mayor Edgar Vanneman, Jr. ATTEST: City Clerk Adopted: 1977 C/ Mayor- 0 -2-
