HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1978-043-R-781 9/22/78 43-R-78 A RESOLUTION Mutual Police Assistance Agreement WHEREAS, Article VII, Section 10 of the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and Chapter 127, Sections 741-748, and Chapter 24, Section 1-4-6, and Section 11-1-2.1 of the Illinois Revised Statutes, authorize and encourage intergovernmental association and cooperation; and WHEREAS, the public officials of the municipalities of EVANSTON, GLENCOE, GLENVIEW, GOLF, KENILWORTH, LINCOLNWOOD, MORTON GROVE, NILES, NORTHBROOK, NORTHFIELD, SKOKIE, WILMETTE, WINNETKA, and WHEELING represent fourteen (14) local government bodies and a population of over 362,549 Illinois residents; and WHEREAS, said public officials are cognizant of and concerned over a continuing increase in the frequency and intensity of criminal activities, particularly those activities.involving crimes of property and violence; and WHEREAS, it is.recognized that in certain situations the use of police officers to perform police duties outside of the territorial limits of the municipality where such officers are employed, may be desirable and necessary in order to preserve and protect the health, safety and welfare of the public; and WHEREAS, these municipalities are so located as contiguous sectors of the area that it is to the advantage of each participant to extend service and.assistance to the others with respect to police powers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in recognition of the foregoing, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Evanston support a guarantee of 1 43-R-78 greater police protection for its citizens, and endorses the concept*of mutual aid between and among these municipalities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Evanston, that the Manager and City Clerk are duly authorized to ex- ecute an Agreement for Mutual Police Assistance in concert with the other municipalities participating in this Mutual Police Assistance Agreement.
