RESOLUTION FOR CITY COUNCIL
Meeting of December 8,1958
Whereas, Abandonment of Chicago, Milwaukee and North Shore R.R.
shore line route in 1956 eliminated a necessary public transporta-
tion service between Evanston and the nearby suburbs of Wilmette,
Kenilworth, Winnetka and Glencoe which has not been adequately re-
placed by service on the Chicago and Northwestern Railway system;
and
Whereas, A bus route between the Fountain Square Business District
and Glencoe along Green Bay Road, providing regular and frequent
service, would provide a necessary service, particularly for poten-
tial patrons (1) who live-in the adjacent villages and are employed
in Evanston or have business.in Evanston; (2) who live in Evanston
and are employed in the nearby villages; and (3) who need more
frequent and convenient connection with the CTA service in Evanston;.
and
Whereas, The Evanston Bus Company has demonstrated for many years its
ability to provide excellent bus transportation within the City of
Evanston.
Now Therefore Be It Resolved That The City Council of the City of
Evanston strongly endorses the proposed extension by the Evanston
Bus Company of its service to Glencoe on Green Bay Road and urges
immediate approval by the Illinois Commerce Commission for a trial
test period of at least six months in duration. p Q
