WHEREAS, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, in connection with new construction, needs to provide for underground steam abd return system service from the existing central heating plant, together with an electric high voltage system, all in the area south of University Place between Chicago Avenue and Orrington Avenue in the City of Evanston; and !' WHEREAS, the University shall require an underground easement across certain streets and other public property for said underground steam and electric system: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED ttkat :i NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY be granted easements in and to certain streets and other public property and permission to construct, maintain and operate an underground steam supply and return system, as well as an electric distribution system, more fully described as follows: Steam Supply and Return System - The steam supply and return system will consist of an 8" steam supply and a 5" con- densate return and a 1-1/2" high pressure drip line, all to be encased in an insulated envelope approximately 30" wide by 24" to be located, in general, approximately 30" below grade; together with the necessary manholes approximately 10'-7" by 12' by 8'-211. Easement Granted - A twelve foot easement, the center line of which starts at a point of beginning in the north property line of Sheridan Road 315 feet west of the west property line extended of Hinman Avenue; thence southwesterly across Sheridan Road a distance of 110 feet to a point lying 6 feet north of the south property line of Sheridan Road and 21 feet east of the east property line of Chicago Avenue; thence west along a line parallel to and 6 feet north of the M south line of Sheridan Road a distance of 115 feet to a point of juncture lying 6 feet north of the south line, extended, of Sheridan Road and 6 feet east of the west line of r%icago �i z • • I 055 Avenue. One branch then continues west, the center line of which is parallel to and 6 feet north of the south line of University Place a distance measured along said line of 336 toot to a point lying 323 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue measured along a line perpendicular to the west line of Chicago Avenue to a point of ending. The other branch proceeds south the center line of which is parallel to and 6 feet east of the west line of Chicago Avenue a distance of 542 feet to a point lying 6 feet east of the west line of Chicago Avenue and 6 feet south of the north line of Clark Street; thence west along a line parallel to and 6 feet south of the north line of Clark Street a distance of 298 feet to a point lying 6 feet south of the north line of Clark Street and 292 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue; thence south a distance of 66 feet along a line parallel to and 286 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue to a point of ending lying in the south line of Clark Street and 286 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue. & ctric Distribution System - The electric system will consist of a two duct run crossing University Place and in the alley west of Chicago Avenue and south of University Place, which has been abandoned by the Public Service Division i� of Commonwealth Edison Company, installed approximately 3 feet below grade and carrying insulated cables. Easement Grantees - A ten foot easement, the center line of which starts at a point of beginning in the north line of University Place 160 feet west of the west line of Sheridan Road, thence southeasterly a distance of 24 feet to a point which is 20 feet south of the north line of University Place and 140 feet west of the west line of Sheridan Road, thence southeasterly a distance of 43 feet to a point that is 35 feet north of the south line of University Place and 128 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue, thence westerly a distance of 90 feet to a point 30 feet north of the south line of University Place and 216 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue, thence southerly a distance of 115 feet to a point of ending, which lies 77 feet south of the south line of University Place and 225 feet west of the west line of Chicago Avenue. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the installation of said steam supply and electric distribution system shall be subject to the approval of the appropriate municipal officials and all ordinances pertaining thereto and located in accordance with the Plat hereto attached and made a part hereof. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that any permit issued here- i under shall require that Northwestern University replace and repair any sidewalks, pavement or other public improvement injured or disturbed by reason of the construction or maintenance of the steam pipe and electrical distribution conduits, and i� i -2- n • • i� 056 ,1 shall require that the University, at its own expense, whenever ordered by the Director of Public Works shall make adjustments and relocate its steam mains or electrical distribution conduits in or under said public property as may be reasonable and t necessary to avoid interference with utilities owned by the municipality. i During construction and after such steam pipe and electrical distribution conduits are completed and the streets, Sidewalks and other public areas have been properly surfaced and restored, Northwestern University shall indemnify and hold harmless the City of Evanston from any and all loss or damage or claims for damages arising from or out of the use of the space under said streets, sidewalks or other public areas.
