HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1959-009-R-59• 060 • 9-R-59 RESOLUTION Commending The Honorable WILLIAM G. STRATTON GOVERNOR OF ILLINOIS WHEREAS$ GOVERNOR WILLIAM G. STRATTON, during and after the 1959 biennial session of the Illinois State Legislature, afforded material aid to Illinois municipalities by his general, support of home rule for municipalities, vetoing a series of Bills which would have required the additional, and expensive publi- cation of financial transactions, and particularly by his veto of House Bill 713 which would have ended police -fire cooperation as practiced in Evanston and elsewhere; and • WHEREAS, GOVERNOR WILLIAM G. STRATTON has exhibited statesmanship qualities for which he should be commended: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, this City Council on behalf of itself, the Mayor, City Manager, City Officials and the residents of this community, do hereby express appreciation to GOVERNOR WILLIAM G. STRATTON for establishing an enviable record of supporting the idea that cities should be allowed management of matters purely local in nature a,hd for his veto of House Bill 713 which would have discouraged development and experiment of new technics in municipal administration. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be made a part of the permanent records of the city and a copy executed by the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk be sent to THE HONORABLE WILLIAM G.
