HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1960-001-R-60073 I -R-60 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the Illinois Revised Statutes provide that • general property tax bills are to be issued in accordance with a schedule that establishes May 1 and September 1 of each year as penalty dates for the two installments; and WHEREAS, the various agencies and officials of Cook County responsible for assessing, billing, and collecting the tax have not adhered to this schedule in recent years; and INHEREAS, statements of County officials reported in the press indicate that 1959 tax bills will be issued some months behind schedule, that these tax bills will be payable in one installment, and that the penalty date will be September 1, 1960, or even later; and WHEREAS, this delay would result in the City of Evanston having to wait an additional three months or more be- fore any tax moneys would be received, and in additional in- terest costs on tax anticipation warrants amounting to as much as $10,000 or more; and tNHEREAS, both the taxpayers of this City and the City of Evanston's tax collection record suffer when tax bills cannot be paid in two installments; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Evanston, Illinois, that the Board of Cook County Commissioners be and is hereby respectfully urged to take all practicable steps to cause tax bills for the year 1959 and sub- sequent years to be prepared, issued, and payable on the earli- est possible dates and to be payable in two separate installments in the manner provided by law; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution • properly certified by the City Clerk,be forwarded to the Board of Cook County Commissioners. /s/ Bennie G.
