RESOLUTION
On the Occasion of the
Retirement of Mayor John R. Kimbark
WHEREAS, the Aldermen of the Evanston City Council accept with pro-
found regret the resignation of John R. Kimbark as Mayor of the City of
Evanston due to his illness; and
WHEREAS, John R. Kimbark for thirty-two years has ably served in
positions of official leadership, including 19 years as the elected
Alderman for the Third Ward and since 1953 as the elected Mayor of the
• City of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, John R. Kimbark headed the citizens' committee whose ef-
forts led to adoption of the council-manager form of municipal government
and was drafted to become the first Mayor under the plan and in this of-
fice has contributed greatly to making this form of government succeed in
this community,
NOW, TI'ORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Aldermen of the Evanston City
Council, on behalf of themselves, the City Manager, and other officials,
as well as the citizens of this community, publicly and officially, ex-
press their gratitude to John R. Kimbark for his distinguished perform-
ance as a public official, and for the many constructive programs initi-
ated under his leadership which have benefited this municipality, and for
his personal qualities of sincerity, forthrightness, loyalty and integ-
rity which have constantly been shown,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be made a part of the
permanent records of the City of Evanston and that a suitable copy thereof,
signed by the Mayor Pro Tem and attested by the City Clerk, be sent to the
Honorable John R. Kimbark.
ADOPTED this 30th day of July, 1962, pursuant to a roll call vote as \
follows:
AYES$ Alderman Gorbyy, Harbaugh, Marshall, Kamen, Vanneman,
Corcoran, Hills, Nott, Becky Rubin, McCourt, Trahan, Howell,
Boer, Ward, Trenbeth, Long and Nichols.
NAYS: None.
