Supporting Proposers McCormick
Boulevard Expressway
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has intensively reviewed
the studies and recommendations of the Chicago Area Transportation
Study, and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has conducted intensive
studies of present and projected traffic volumes both with their
own forces and with the services of the H. too Lochner Company,
and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has developed, studied,
and tested alternative street systems for meeting present and
projected traffic needs and has found that the proposed express-
way bordering McCormick Boulevard to the west of Evanston is an
essential component of any future major street plan which is to
• provide practicable solutions to projected increases in north -
south traffic volumes on Evanston streets:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council
of the City of Evanston strongly urges the early adoption and
approval of a route for the proposed McCormick Boulevard Express-
way by the Illinois State Division of Highways and further urges
that detailed alignment studies for the route be initiated as soon
as practicable, and

BE IT FURTHER RESCLYED, that the City of Evanston
directs its staff to aid and cooperate with the Division of
• Highways, the County of Cook and all other governmental agencies
•
concerned with the designation and construction of the proposed
McCormick Boulevard Expressway, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is
hereby authorized and directed to transmit copies of this reso-
lution to Mr. Virden E. Staff, Illinois Chief Highway Engineer,
prior to the meeting called by the Illinois Division of Highways
on September 17, 1964, and to transmit additional copies of the
resolution to the County of Cook, the Northeastern Illinois Plan-
ning Commission, mayors and presidents of adjoining municipali-
ties, and representatives of other governmental agencies concerned
with the proposed route.
