HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1964-019-R-64Amended 6-1-64 272 • 19-R-64 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has operated certain temporary housing units:along the North Shore Channel right- of-way of the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Chicago; and WHEREAS, this housing was made available on December 1, 1946, and the objective was to provide accommodations for persons returning from military service at the end of World War II; and WHEREAS, these housing units, being converted temporary army barracks, were to be in service for a limited period, and 99 of the original 111 units were demolished in 1956: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE • CITY OF EVANSTON that the City discontinue the operation of the veterans' housing units along the North Shore Channel right-of- way of the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Chicago on July 31, 1965. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to have served on all tenants in these units a notice terminating their tenancies on July 31, 1965, and that he, if necessary, take appropriate legal action to secure possession of these units. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed, when all units in this project have been vacated, to cause all existing structures to be removed from this land as soon as practicable.
