HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1965-037-R-6544 37-R-65 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, there are 14 miles of unpaved streets and 44 miles of unpaved alleys in the City of Evanston; and WHEREAS, unpaved streets and alleys are relatively expensive to maintain and cannot be continuously well main- tained where drainage conditions are poor; and WHEREAS, unpaved streets and alleys detract from the appearance of neighborhoods and are a source of dirt, dust, and irritation, and are a hazard for persons living on them • and members of the general public traveling on them; and WHEREAS, the City Council understands that Illinois law provides that a public improvement to be financed from special assessments cannot be "ordered in" until and unless the Board of Local Improvements holds a public hearing to determine the extent of property oviner support and opposi- tion; the Board of Local Improvements recommends to the City Council that the improvement be made; and the City Council, after due deliberation,. adopts an ordinance author- izing the improvement: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Evanston, Illinois, hereby reaffirms its desire to expedite the paving of unpaved streets and alleys within • the City, using all appropriate methods provided by Illinois • • law, and it therefore rove- encoura es the Board of Local Improve- ments p ments to proceed with the initiation of selected paving pro- jects without receiving petitions requesting the�improve- ments from the assessable property owners.
