HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1966-012-R-66• sa 12-R-66 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council, by its adoption of Resolution 8-R-66 on January 31, 1966, declared "that it favors the dissolu- tion of the three park districts within the City of Evanston and the consolidation of the park system under the City's Park and Recreation Department, and that it solicits the support and coop- eration of the Commissioners of the First Park District, North East Park District, and Ridgeville Park District in the achieve:- • sent of these organizational objectives;" and WHEREAS, petitions are currently being circulated so that the Commissioners of the Ridgeville Park District will hold a referendum on the question of dissolving that park district; and WHEREAS, the citizens residing within the Ridgeville Park District should prorrrptly be given certain assurances concerning the future use of the park and recreational facilities now operated by the Ridgeville Park District if that district is dissolved: NCW, TfMMME, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Evanston, Illinois, hereby reaffirms that it will en- deavor to achieve consolidation of the park system under the City:s Park end Recreation Departrrant if and as the present three park • districts are dissolved, and that it is opposed to the establismant of an overall park district for the City of Evanston or any other new park district within the City; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council, so as to assure the citizens residing within the present Ridgeville Park District, hereby declares that it intends to do the following if the Ridgeville Park District is dissolved: 1. Accept title to any and all Ridgeville park lands and operate and mnint-ain these lands as parks in the future, 2. Further improve said Ridgeville park lands in a mariner consistent with efforts to improve parks in other sections of Evanston, • 3. Maintain and operate the present Ridgeville Comr. mmity House for at least ten years unless a new facility serving the same purposes is constructed within the present district, and retain the present policies under which the Ridgeville Community House may be used by all neighborhood and community groups, and 4. Retain the several Ridgeville Park District employees in their present positions with comparable pay and working conditions; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby requests the Commissioners of the Ridgeville Park District to join with the City Council by declaring that they are in accord • with the four assurances to the citizens set forth hereinabove, and by declaring that the Commissioners wil1 convey all park lands now owned by the District to the City of Evanston for a a 0 _3_ nominal consideration if dissolution of the District is approved by the voters; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transcdt.a certified copy of this resolution to the President of the Ridgeville Park District. /s/ John D.
