HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1966-008-R-66• 0 537 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, a Subcommittee of the Municipal Services Com- mittee.of the City Council, under Docket 285-12C-64, has care- fully evaluated alternative park and recreation organizational arrangements for the Evanston community; and WHEREAS, said Subcommittee has now issued its report in which'it recommends that the three park districts within the City of Evanston be dissolved and that the park system be consolidated under the City's Park and Recreation Department; and WHEREAS, consolidation of the parks and recreation responsi- bility under the City of Evanston offers many advantages - - to wit, simplification of governmental structure by eliminating three governmental bodies; financial savings to Evanston taxpayers; a more equal distribution of the cost of running our park system; closer coordination of park plans with other city pro- jects; closer coordination of city and school district actions relating to parks and recreation; and the balancing of park needs against other municipal needs by one legislative body, the City Council; and • WHEREAS, the City of Evanston now operates over 90 per- cent of the parks in this community and is prepared to accept the responsibility for operation, maintenance, and further e t� a J development of the parks operated by the three park districts; and CWHERSAS, the City Council, particularly through its adoption of the "General Plan for. Parks" and through its ap- proval of increased park appropirations in recent years, has demonstrated that it supports an aggressive park land acquisi- tion and development program: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby declares that it favors the dissolution of the three • park districts within the City of Evanston and the consolida- tion of the park system under the City's Park and Recreation Department, and that it solicits the support and cooperation of the Commissioners of the First Park District, North East Park District, and Ridgeville Park District in the achievement of these organizational objectives; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be and hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the President of each of the three above named park districts. /s/ John D.
