HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1968-006-R-68R E S O L U T I O N 6-R-68 .Y+ WHEREAS, State basketball tournaments have been held in the State of Illinois Alfor 61 years, and the State basketball championship has become the most coveted ath- letic honor available to any Illinois high school; and • WHEREAS, the 1967=68 Evanston Township High School basketball team on March 23, 1968 defeated Galesburg by a score of 70 to 51 to become the new Illinois State Basketball Champions; and WHEREAS, this team is the first ETHS team in the history of the school to win the State championship; and WHEREAS, this ETHS team compiled a season record of thirty wins and one loss, and consistently earned high respect for its athletic skills, discipline, determina ,tion, and good sportsmanship; and WHEREAS, this ETHS team has been the source of great pride to Evanston and has once again exhibited what the youth of this community can accomplish: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Evans- ton, Illinois, on behalf of itself, the City Manager, and an admiring community, hereby heartily congratulates and commends the ETHS players, managers, coaches, and supporting staff associated with the 1967-68 Illinois State Championship Basketball Team, as follows: Players: Orestes Arrietta William Battinus Ronald Cooper Michael Hart Alton Hill Odell Johnson Farrell Jones Alvin Keith Robert Lackey Walter Perrin Managers: John Arao Frederick DeLeeuw Don Vandello Coaches and Staff: Jack Burmaster, Head Coach Stephen Power, Assistant Coach Samuel Adams, Director of Transportation Services and Chief Booster William Bunn, Spirit of Evanston High School Arch Kennedy, Trainer AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution, when duly adopted by the City Council, shall be made a part of the permanent records of the City of Evanston, Illinois, and a copy of this Resolution, signed by the Mayor Pro Tem and attested by the City Clerk, shall be transmitted to each of the persons honored herein. 31u,-�a City Clerk C 16 M& �< Mayor Pro Tem 0
