HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1969-022-R-6922- R- 69 • RESOLUTION Cr Urging Enactment of Senate Bill 701 WHEREAS, Senate Bill 701, which is currently being considered by the 76th Illinois General Assembly, would create the Department of Local Government Affairs and a Local Government Advisory Council,. and the Governor would appoint 14 officials of Illinois local governments to this Advisory Council which would advise.and con- sult with the Director of the Department of Local Government Affairs; and WHEREAS, the proposed Department of Local Government Affairs would, among other things, provide a variety of technical assist- ance research, information, training and federal and facilitation services; would foster the development of safe and decent housing; and would bring together into a single coordinated department a variety of State activities that are related to local government; and WHEREAS, the establishment of similar departments of local government affairs in a number of other states has resulted in the state government's assuming greater responsibility for its local governments and providing more leadership and resources to aid in the solution of urban area problems; and WHEREAS, it is acutely necessary that the State of Illinois have an appropriate organization to better serve its local govern- ments and to illuminate and solve their problems. - ,NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Evanston, Illinois, that the members of the 76th Illinois General Assembly be and they hereby are urged to enact Senate Bill 701 into law so as to create a Department of Local Government Affairs and a Local -Government Advisory Council; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized and requested to transmit copies of this resolution to Senator Arrington, Representative Dawson, Representative Johnston, Representative Katz, and members of the Senate and House Committees considering Senate ?ill 701, and to take other appropriate steps, in cooperation with the Illinois Municipal League, to urge the enact - meet of said bill.
