A RESOLUTION
Recommending That The General Assembly
Override Governor Thompson's Veto Of H.B. 2564
-- A Bill To Reduce And Eliminate The Sales
Tax On Food And Medicine
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston is committed to
meaningful tax relief for its citizens in this time of
serious inflation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston believes the sales
tax on food and medicine to be a regressive and unfair
tax which particicularly burdens persons on low and fixed
incomes; and
WHEREAS, the reduction and eventual elimination
of this tax, as provided for in H.B. 2564, would offer
significant and needed relief; and
WHEREAS, the bill states that no municipality
or county shall suffer any loss of revenue by enactment
of H.B. 2564;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City
Council of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois, urgently re-
commends that the General Assembly of the State of Illinois
override Governor James R.
