Alderman James for the STREET COMMITTEE reported
to the Council that in response to reference made recently to the
Commissioner of Public Works requesting that he endeavor to enlist
the cooperation of the owners of property in the business districts
of Evanston to repair the broken sidewalk curbs, that the Commissioner
has sent a communication to the President of the Real Estate Board,

response from both of those organizations.

Engineer re-: reference of Alderman Harwood that parking be prohibited
at all times on the south side of Lincoln Street from Orrington
Avenue to Sheridan Road. This street is narrow and congested with

and so moved. Duly seconded and carried.
Alderman James reported that reference was made
that Clark Street be made a one-way street from Ridge Avenue to
Oak Avenue. If Clark Street were made a one-way street it would
upset the over-all plan for the Emerson Street viaduct previously
approved by the City Council. The Traffic Engineer made a study

cannot approve making it one-way. It is recommended that no change
be made in the present plan. Alderman James moved adoption of the
Q
recommendation. Duly seconded and carried.
Alderman James submitted report from the
Commissioner of Public Works relative to request received from the
Standard Oil Company for a permit to construct an additional driveway
to serve the filling station at the northeast corner of Clark Street
and Ridge Avenue. The proposed driveway is to be located on the
north side of Clark Street, east of Ridge Avenue. This matter has
been discussed with the Traffic Engineer who feels that the con-
struction of a new driveway as requested would create a second
intersection within a few feet of the Ridge Avenue -Clark Street
intersection, and would result in a considerable amount of congestion
and confusion at this location. It,is recommended that the request
of the Standard Oil Company for driveway on the north side of
Clark Street east of Ridge Avenue be denied, and so moved. Duly
seconded and carried.
Alderman James introduced An Ordinance Amending

Main Street to Sreenleaf Street.)

Eighth Ward made a reference that hereafter when an alderman makes
a reference, that a copy of same be placed in his folder.
160
Alderman Thoma spoke in reference to the ice
pond situation in the city, stating that in the Eighth Ward the city
puts up $2000 each year which is 50% of the cost of maintaining one
at South Blvd. and Asbury Avenue. He suggested that probably we
could develop.throughout the city permanent ice ponds which would
in summer time act as wading pools for the smaller children and in
the cold weather you would have ice ponds there without further
expense to the city. Accordingly made a reference that the matter
be gone into and studied by the Park Committee and also the Plan
Commission, as it will take time to spot these ponds. Duly seconded
and carried.
