minutes were approved for the meeting of October 26, 2000.
Status of Police/Fire vacancies: Staff reported we are currently fully staffed for the
positions of Police Officer and Firefighter/Paramedic.

The meeting of the Evanston Civil Service Commission was called to order at 7:05 pm. The
minutes were approved for the meeting of September 20, 2000,
Status of Police/Fire vacancies: Staff reported that are four vacancies for Police Officer,
and none for Fire lighter/Paramedic.
Other business: None
Future meetings have been scheduled as follows: Thursday. October 26'" at 7.00 pm.;
3 oral interviews; Wednesday, November I° at 7:00 p.m., 4 oral interviews; Wednesday.
November 15" at 7:00 p.m. for oral interviews, if needed.
The Commission then adjourned into Executive Session for purposes of personnel matter
deliberation at 7:15 p.m.

The meeting of the Evanston Civil Service Commission was called to order at 7:30 p.m. The
minutes were approved for the meeting of June 27, 2000.
Status of Police/Fire vacancies: Staff reported that are two new vacancies for Police
Officer, and none for Fire fightcr/Paramedic.
Other business: Commissioner Dotson announced that this would most Iikely be his last
meeting, since he had again tendered his resignation to the Mayor, effective at the end of
July. Fire Chief Wilkinson presented a token of appreciation from the department to
Commissioner Dotson, and thanked him for all of his hard work and dedication to the
process, and that the Fire Department was in better shape thanks to his work. (Chief
Wilkinson left the meeting at this time.) Chairman Segal, on behalf of the Commission and
staff, extended her thanks and gratitude to Commissioner Dotson, that he had been a
pleasure to work with, and commented on his hard work good hires and the legacy he leaves
in place. Commissioner Jean -Baptiste also thanked Commissioner Dolton, and remarked
that his shoes would be hard to fill. Staff expressed t.52nks on behalf of the entire human
Resources Department as well as the Police and Fire Departments for Commissioner
Dotson's patience, persistence and continuing good humor through a schedule of meetings
that was daunting and demanding, and all wished him well in his future endeavors. Police
Chief Kaminski presented a token of appreciation from the Police Department, and echoed
all other statements. Commission Dotson was extended an open invitation to attend any
future Commission meetings. Commission Dotson thanked everyone, remarked on how
much he had enjoyed his time on the Commission, and that in his experience this
Commission accomplished more and of a more lasting nature than many of his other
community service activities.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 20 — two oral interviews for the position
of Police Officer.

The meeting of the Evanston Civil Service Commission was called to order at 7:30 p.m. The
minutes were approved for the meeting of June 8, 2000.
Status of Police/Fire vacancies: Staff reported that are two new vacancies for Police
Officer, and none for Fire (ighter/Paramedic.
Other business: Staff reported that at the meeting of the Administration and Public Works
Committee meeting on June 26, the Aldermen had expressed their thanks to the Civil Service
Commission for their hard work in tilling twelve police officer vacancies.
Chairman Segal reported on a conversation she had with a member of the Board of Fire and
Police Commission of the Village of Skokie regarding polygraph examinations; Ms. Segal
expressed her satisfaction that our polygraph policies and examinations were much more
appropriate than those being used by Skokie (where they do not ask about alcohol and drug
use). She also commented on the structure of the Skokie Commission, where members are
appointed for many years without term limits (some have served as long as twenty years),
and how Evanston's system seemed much more appropriate.
The Commission then adjourned into Executive Session for purposes of personnel matter
deliberation at 7:45 p.m.
