Gaynor, Parks/Forestry & Recreation Director Others Present: Jean Speyer, Alderman Steven Bernstein 1. Consent Agenda The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. 11. Comments from Observers Alderman Bernstein and Ms. Speyer both spoke favorably about Reverend Hardist E. Lane and fully supported the honorary street name sign request. Proposed Honorary Street Name Sign honoring Reverend Hardist E. Lane Mr. Gaynor gave a brief overview of the Honorary Street Sign Name application submitted by Alderman Steven Bernstein, in honor of Reverend Lane as a token of appreciation for his thirty-five years of life - enhancing service to the City of Evanston. Reverend Lane Is a strong humanitarian advocate for peace and justice, whose ministry at the Fisher Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Evanston, Illinois, extends to outreach work both denominationally and ecumenically. For thirty-five years Reverend Lane has been devoted to caring for countless distressed Individuals and families within the Fisher Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Evanston community, and beyond. Some of his ministries include: • the "Circuit Court of Cook County Client Advocate program providing prison deterrence through personal counseling and advocacy for young men and women; • the "Fresh Start" program assisting individuals previously incarcerated and released find a wholesome lifestyle; • the "First Base" program securing essential services for victims of temporary and/or chronic homelessness; and • the "Families -in -Transition" program assisting low income families deal with emergency food, shelter, and shut-off situations, as well as complete their education ACTION • The motion to forward the Honorary Street Sign Name application to the Planning and Development Committee with a recommendation of approval was seconded and approved.
