AN ORDINANCE
Amending Sections 3-19-4-3 and 3-19-4-4
of the Evanston City Code, Relating
to Taxicab Licensing Requirements
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That the Evanston City Code of 1979, as
amended, be and hereby is, further amended
by adding a new subsection (I) to section 3-19-4-3:
3-19-4-3: QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANT, ISSUANCE OF
LICENSE:
(I) Applicants applying for a license for the first
time after the effective date of this section
shall attend a driver's training course approved
• by the City, and pass any proficiency
examinations related thereto, administered by
the course instructor(s) and/or the City, as a
condition precedent to obtaining -a license.
Persons possessing valid licenses as of the
effective date of this section, who were first
licensed by the City for the years 1989, 1990,
or 1991, must satisfy the driver's training
course and examination requirements by July 1,
1992. Temporary licenses expiring July 1, 1992
will be issued to these persons. Persons
licensed by the City for the year 1988 or for
prior years are exempt from the driver's
training course and examination requirements.
Notwithstanding any other provision of this
section, persons whose licenses have lapsed for
a period of one year or more from the
expiration date of their last valid City license
are required to take the course and pass the
examination(s) as a condition precedent to
obtaining a license. Persons failing the
examination will be allowed to repeat the
examination within fifteen days. Persons
failing the second examination will be required
to repeat the course before being allowed to
take the examination again.

SECTION 2: That section 3-19-4-4 of the City Code be
amended as follows:
3-19-4-4: LICENSE FEE; EXPIRATION DATE:
The fee for an Evanston public passenger vehicle
driver's license shall be twenty-five dollars
($25.00) per annum for the original application
and twenty dollars ($20.00) per annum for
succeeding annual renewals. Each annual license
shall expire on December 31 following its date
of issuance, except that 1991 licenses shall not
expire until thirty (30) days after the
effective date of this ordinance. (Ord. 11-0-78;

SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage,
• approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
