AN ORDINANCE
Granting a Special Use at 1501 Central Street
WHEREAS, the Evanston Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)
conducted a public hearing on December 17, 1991, upon the
application of Northwestern University for a special use to
permit erection of a pneumatic building over three existing
tennis courts from September to May of each year for existing
athletic programs on the property located at 1501 Central Street,
a U5 University Athletic Facilities District; said public
hearing having been conducted pursuant to notice and publication
thereof in the manner provided by law; and
• WHEREAS, the Zoning Board of Appeals has recommended
that the application for the aforesaid special use be granted;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That, based upon the evidence and
testimony presented at the hearing, and
upon deliberations and findings of fact contained in the
transcript of the Zoning Board of Appeals Case No. 91-32-SU(R),
upon the application by Northwestern University for a special use
to permit erection of a pneumatic building over three existing
tennis courts from September to May of each year for existing
athletic programs on the property located at 1501 Central Street,

in a U5 University Athletic Facilities District; and legally
described as follows:
"LOT 17, EXCEPT THE WEST 4.30 ACRES THEREOF AND EXCEPT
THAT PART LYING WEST OF THE WEST LINE OF ASHLAND AVENUE
AND SOUTH OF THE CENTER LINE, EXTENDED EAST, OF THE 16
FOOT ALLEY WHICH LIES SOUTH OF AND ADJOINING LOT 4 AND
NORTH OF AND ADJOINING LOTS 5, 6, 7 AND 8, IN THE
RESUBDIVISION OF LOTS 1, 2, 3 AND 4, IN BLOCK 36 OF
"NORTH EVANSTON"; ALSO
ALL OF LOT 18, EXCEPT THE EAST 4.0 FEET OF THE NORTH
465.92 FEET THEREOF; ALSO;
THE WEST HALF OF LOT 19, EXCEPT THE NORTH 465.92 FEET
THEREOF AND EXCEPT THE EAST 45.0 FEET LYING NORTH OF A
LINE 326.0 FEET NORTH FROM AND PARALLEL WITH THE NORTH
LINE OF CENTRAL STREET; ALSO,
EXCEPTING THEREFROM THAT PART BOUNDED AND DESCRIBED AS
FOLLOWS: COMMENCING AT THE POINT OF INTERSECTION OF
THE NORTH LINE OF CENTRAL STREET WITH THE EAST LINE OF
THE WEST HALF OF SAID LOT 19 AND RUNNING THENCE WEST
ALONG THE NORTH LINE OF CENTRAL STREET, A DISTANCE OF
143.0 FEET; THENCE NORTH PARALLEL TO THE SAID EAST LINE
• OF THE WEST HALF OF LOT 19, A DISTANCE OF 150.00 FEET;
THENCE EAST PARALLEL TO THE SOUTH LINE OF SAID LOT 19,
A DISTANCE OF 68.0 FEET TO A POINT 75.0-FEET WEST OF
SAID EAST LINE OF WEST HALF OF LOT 19; THENCE NORTH
PARALLEL TO SAID EAST LINE OF THE WEST HALF OF LOT 19,
A DISTANCE OF 176.0 FEET TO A POINT 326.00 FEET NORTH
OF THE NORTH LINE OF CENTRAL STREET; THENCE EAST
PARALLEL TO SAID SOUTH LINE OF LOT 19, A DISTANCE OF
75.00 FEET TO AN INTERSECTION WITH SAID EAST LINE OR
THE WEST HALF OF LOT 19; AND THENCE SOUTH ALONG THE
EAST LINE OF THE WEST HALF OF LOT 19, A DISTANCE OF
326.00 FEET TO THE POINT OF BEGINNING;
EXCEPTING FROM THE ABOVE, CERTAIN STREETS OPENED AND
USED IN GEORGE SMITH'S SUBDIVISION OF THE SOUTH PART OF
THE ARCHANGE OUILMETTE RESERVATION (SITUATED IN
TOWNSHIP 42 NORTH, RANGE 13 EAST OF THE THIRD PRINCIPAL
MERIDIAN)."
is granted, subject to compliance with all other provisions of
the Zoning Ordinance, other applicable laws and the following
conditions:

1. The proposed construction and subsequent use of
the facility shall be in substantial compliance
with the testimony presented and the plans placed
on file in connection with this case; and
2. Any mechanical or electrical equipment installed
in conjunction with the pneumatic dome shall be so
located and/or baffled so that it will not create
a general nuisance with respect to noise in the
neighborhood and, if after installation, the City
Director of Building and Zoning shall determine
that said equipment is causing a general nuisance
by reason of noise generation in the neighbor-
hood, the equipment shall be relocated or further
baffled at the owner's expense, in order to
alleviate the problem.
SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage,
• approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
