AN ORDINANCE
Amending Section 7-11-7
Regulating Boating and
Personal Watercraft
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That Section 7-11-7 of the Evanston City
Code, 1979, as amended, be and hereby is further amended as
follows:
7-11-7: REGULATIONS OF CITY BOAT RAMPS, BOATING ACTIVITIES:
(A) Permit Required: Season or daily permits are required
for boat launching.
(B) Boat Launching: Sailboats over fourteen feet long and
Dower boats shall launch onlv from the Church Street
ramp: sailboards shall launch onlv from Greenwood
Beach: and sailboats fourteen feet long and under and
double hull sailboats shall launch onlv from Demister
Beach. Launching of such watercraft from any public
ramp is prohibited after eleven o'clock (11:00) P.M.
(C) Hours of Operation for Personal Watercraft:
Personal watercraft shall be operated on the lakefront
onlv between the hours of nine o' clock (9:00) A.M. and
eight -thirty (8:30) P.M. and shall be launched onlv
from the Church Street ramp.
(D) Carry -In Ramp: The carry -in ramp at Dempster Street
will be used to launch boats fourteen feet (141) or
under which are not propeller -driven crafts carrying
motors. Launching of crafts at the carry -in ramp will
be in accordance with weather and/or water conditions.
Ramp closing due to adverse weather or other unsafe
conditions will be determined by the Lakefront
Director.
(E) Power Boaters: Power boaters and operators of personal
watercraft shall not cause a wake when entering or
leaving the launching area.
(F) Church Street Boat Ramp: Boats and personal watercraft
are prohibited from tying up more than fifteen (15)
minutes at the Church Street boat ramp piers. .
(G) Windsurfing:
1. Only one person is permitted on a single windsurfing
or similar board.
2. Personal flotation devices (PFDs) are required for
windsurfers .
(H) Personal Watercraft - Fees and Regulations: Excevt as
provided herein personal watercraft and operators of
such shall be subject to the same Evanston City
ordinances, and Evanston Recreation Department
regulations and user fees applicable to power boats and
power boaters.
SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed. 6
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication
in the manner provided by law.
