HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1994-116-O-94116-0-94 An Ordinance Granting Evanston Landmark Status To The Property At 2319 Sherman Avenue WHEREAS, among the purposes of the Historic Preservation Ordinance ("The Ordinance"), Title 2, Chapter 9 of the City Code is that in section 2-9-1 (A) to identify, preserve, protect, enhance, and encourage the continued utilization and rehabilitation of areas, properties, structures, sites and objects having a special historical, community, architectural, or aesthetic interest or value to the City of Evanston and its citizens; and WHEREAS, the designation of certain properties as Landmarks is a means of accomplishing the aforesaid purposes; and WHEREAS, section 2-9-3 (G) (1) of the Ordinance charges the Preservation Commission with investigating and making recommendations to the City Council or its duly authorized Committee concerning the adoption of ordinances designating areas, properties, structures, sites, and objects as Landmarks and Districts; and WHEREAS, section 2-9-5 of the Ordinance sets forth the process whereby the Preservation Commission shall nominate, consider, and designate Landmarks and Districts; and WHEREAS, the owners of 2319 Sherman Avenue, applied for the designation of their property as Evanston Landmark; and WHEREAS, a public hearing was held September 20, 1994, regarding the property at 2319 Sherman Avenue, pursuant to section 2-9-5 (C) of the Ordinance; and WHEREAS, the Preservation Commission found that the property at 2319 Sherman Avenue met one or more of the criteria in section 2-9-4 of the Ordinance for designation as Evanston Landmarks; and WHEREAS, the Preservation Commission voted to recommend that the City Council grant • Evanston Landmark designation to the property at 2319 Sherman Avenue; 116-0-94 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ]I,LINOIS: SECTION 1: The findings, testimony and other evidence with respect to 2319 Sherman Avenue, of the Preservation Commission at its September 20, 1994, meeting is hereby adopted by the City Council. SECTION 2: The City Council adopts the recommendations of the Preservation Commission and grants Evanston Landmark status to the aforesaid property. SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 4: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
