HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1994-017-O-94• 3/7/94 • 17-0-94 AN ORDINANCE I Amending Section 3-19-6-3(A) of the Evanston City Code to Increase Taxicab Rates NOW THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois: SECTION 1: That Section 3-19-6-3(A) of the City Code of the City of Evanston is hereby amended in the following manner: 3-19-6-3: SCHEDULE OF RATES AND CHARGES: (A) Rates and Charges: The following schedule of rates and charges which is hereby declared to be just and reasonable, computed according to the number of passengers, the distance traveled, and the time computed as indicated by the taximeter installed in each taxicab, shall be effective April 15, 1994: $1.40 for the first 1/4 mile or fraction thereof; .70 for each additional 1/2 mile ($1.40 each mile) 1.00 for the second and additional passenger, excepting children age 12 and under; .175 for each 1/2 minute of waiting time ($.35 each minute; 2.00 minimum fare. The fixed rate for a ride for persons registered to participate in the Senior Citizen/Ambulatory Handicapped Taxicab Program shall be three dollars fifty cents ($3.50), based upon subsidies from the City and Township, with a passenger share of two dollars ($2.00). Eligible riders must be Evanston residents of sixty (60) years of age or older, or those who are ambulatory handicapped, but the availability of assistance shall be limited to those senior citizens who provide a written affidavit of need and meet income eligibility requirements. Eligible senior citizens will be those indiv4l.duals whose annual income does not exceed twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00). Information regarding income must be provided in order to qualify for 1 17-0-94 the transportation program. Applicants must sign a form • attesting that their income is less than the eligibility standard, or that although their income is greater than the • standard they need the program because of extraordinary expenses. Eligible senior citizens/ambulatory handicapped riders must purchase a coupon for services at designated locations for two dollars ($2.00). The City will contribute one dollar -fifty cents ($1.50) for each valid coupon retained. Riders must be taken only within the corporate boundaries of the City, twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. SECTION 2: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 3: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after April 15, 1994, following its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
