HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1995-058-O-95E 6/6/95 7/6/9 5 58-0-95 AN ORDINANCE Amending Chapter 11 of Title 7 of the Evanston City Code to Create and Regulate a Dog Beach Adjacent to the Church Street Boat Ramp WHEREAS, dogs are not permitted to utilize designated beaches in the City of Evanston; and WHEREAS, many dog owners wish to have their dogs use lakefront beaches and Lake Michigan; and WHEREAS, it is the City's desire to accommodate dog owners without jeopardizing • the public health and safety of citizens who utilize the designated beach areas; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to designate and regulate an appropriate area as a dog beach, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Chapter 11 of Title 7 of the Evanston City Code of 1979, as amended, be and it is hereby amended by adding the following new section: 7-11-8: REGULATIONS OF DOG BEACH (A) An area south and west of the Church Street breakwater and north of the Church Street boat ramp, and the adjacent fenced sandy area is hereby designated as a dog beach. (B) Dogs may be released from their leashes only when they enter the fenced area • designated as the dog beach. 1 0 • • • (C) All dogs must have a season pass to use the beach. (D) All owners or their agents must show their dog's season pass to the attendant as they enter the fenced in area leading to the beach. (E) Appropriate fees will be established for both residents and non-residents. (F) Owners or their agents must be in control of their domesticated dog(s) at all times. (G) Owners or their agents with dogs may enter the water to the knees and no further. (H) Dogs may enter the water only within the designated buoyed area. (1) All dogs must have a valid City dog tag. �) Dog owners or their agents must pick up all waste from their dogs on the beach and place in appropriate receptacles. (K) Sunbathing is prohibited. (L) No glass containers are allowed. • (M) The hours of operation shall be from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. (N) The dog beach shall operate beginning on Saturday following the close of the regular school year for School District 65 through and including Labor Day. SECTION 2: That upon review of this Ordinance by the City Council one year from date of adoption, the Ordinance will either lapse or remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
