AN ORDINANCE
Amending the Text of the Zoning Ordinance
In Sections 6-15-5-2 and 6-15-5-3
Regarding Type 1 Restaurants in
U1 University Housing Districts
WHEREAS, the Plan Commission held a public hearing on November 8,
2000 pursuant to proper notice in case no. ZPC 00-11-T to consider
amendments to Chapter 15, "Special Purpose and Overlay District," Chapter 16,
"Off -Street Parking and Loading," Chapter 18, "Definitions," Chapter 3,
"Implementation and Administration," Chapter 7, "Zoning Districts and Map," and
any related sections of the Zoning Ordinance, regarding Type 1 restaurants in
• the U1, University Housing Districts, among others; and
WHEREAS, the Plan Commission, after hearing testimony and receiving
other evidence, made written findings pursuant to Section 6-3-4-5 of the Zoning
Ordinance that the amendments to Section 6-15-5-2 and Section 6-15-5-3 of the
Zoning Ordinance regarding Type 1 Restaurants in the U1 University District,
more particularly described below, met the standards for amendments to the text
of the Zoning Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Planning and Development Committee of the City Council
considered and adopted the Plan Commission's findings and recommendation at
its December 18, 2000 meeting,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
0 CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:

SECTION 1: That Section 6-15-5-2 of the Zoning Ordinance of the
Evanston City Code of 1979, as amended, be, and it hereby is, further amended,
to read as follows:
Section 6-15-5-2: PERMITTED USES:
The following uses are permitted in the U1 District:
Administrative office (college and university).
Classroom facility (college and university).
Departmental staff office (college and university)
Dormitory (college and university)
Dwellings - Fraternity/Sorority (college and university).
Dwellings - Multiple -family (college and university)
Dwellings - Single-family attached (college and university)
Dwellings - Single-family detached (college and university)
Dwellings - Two-family (college and university)
Educational institution — private
Educational institution - public
Facility offices (college and university).
Government institution.
Park. •
Playground.
SECTION 2: That Section 6-15-5-3 is hereby further amended to read as
follows:
Section 6-15-5-3: SPECIAL USES: The following uses may be allowed in the
U1 district, subject to provisions set forth in Section 6-3-5, "Special Uses":
Cultural facility.
Day care center — Adult (subject to the general requirements of Section
6-4-3, "Adult Day Care Homes").
Day care center — Child (subject to the general requirements of Section
6-4-2, "Child Day Care Homes").
Membership organization
Parking lot (college and university)
Parking structure (college and university)
Planned development (subject to the requirements of Section 6-15-1-9 of
this Chapter and Section 6-3-6, of the Title).
Religious institutions.
Restaurant — Type 1, when an accessory use to a college or university.

SECTION 3: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon
passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
