AN ORDINANCE
Granting an Extension of the Cable Franchise
To January 16, 2001
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has granted AT&T Broadband & Internet Services
a non-exclusive Franchise to own, operate and maintain a Community Cable System within
the City of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, said Cable Franchise will expire on and or about July 16, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston and AT&T Broadband & Internet Services have
begun negotiations for a new Franchise; and
WHEREAS, these negotiations will not be completed prior to the July 16 expiration
of the existing Franchise; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has determined that AT&T Broadband & Internet
Services should be permitted to continue to own, operate and maintain its Cable
Communication System with the City of Evanston pursuant to terms of the existing
Franchise; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston is a Home Rule Unit within the meaning of the
Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: There is hereby granted to AT&T Broadband & Internet Services an
Extension of its non-exclusive Cable Franchise with the City of Evanston.
SECTION 2: That the Franchise Extension herein granted shall be for a period

of six months through and including January 16, 2001 unless superseded by a new
Franchise.
SECTION 3: That the Franchise Extension herein granted shall be subject to the
terms and conditions of the current Franchise (as amended). The City Manager of the City
of Evanston is hereby authorized to execute a Franchise Extension Agreement on behalf
of the City. AT&T Broadband & Internet Services by its execution of said Franchise
Extension Agreement shall be deemed to have accepted all the terms and conditions of
the current Franchise (as amended) as required by this ordinance; except that the City of
Evanston and AT&T Broadband & Internet Services preserve their respective rights under
the Federal Cable Act as amended.
SECTION 4: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 5: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
