HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-2002-086-O-02f•_J 86-0-02 AN ORDINANCE Authorizing the Sale of City Surplus Personal Property Owned by the City of Evanston WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston has determined that it is no longer necessary, practical, or economical or in the best interests of the City of Evanston to retain ownership of the surplus personal property hereinafter described; and, WHEREAS, it has been determined by the City Council of the City of Evanston to sell said surplus property to the highest bidder at a public auction to be held on October 5, 2002, NOW THERFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That pursuant to Section 1-17-3(B) of the City Code of the City of Evanston, 1979, as amended, the City Council finds that the surplus property described in Exhibit A (attached to this Ordinance) has an aggregate value in excess of one thousand five hundred • dollars ($1,500). SECTION 2: That pursuant to said Section 1-17-3(B), the City Council hereby authorizes and directs the City Manager to sell upon terms and conditions he deems reasonable, necessary, and in the best interest of the City the aforescribed surplus now owned by the City of Evanston at a public auction conducted under the aegis of the Village of Libertyville on October 5, 2002, to the highest bidder on said surplus property. SECTION 3: That the City Manager is hereby authorized and may direct the Village of Libertyville to advertise the sale of aforementioned surplus property in a newspaper having a general circulation within the City before the date of said public auction. SECTION 4: That the City Manager is hereby authorized and may direct the Village of Libertyville to enter into an agreement for the sale of said surplus property. SECTION 5: That upon payment of the price indicated in the successful bid, the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to convey evidence of ownership of aforesaid surplus personal property to each successful bidder(s). Radek, Superintendent Administrative Services Request to Declare City Property Surplus The intent of this memorandum is to request declaration by the City Council at its September 9 and 23, 2002 meetings various items of City property as surplus so that the vehicles and other equipment can be publicly offered for sale at the October 5, 2002, Lake County Municipal Auction in Libertyville. We participate in two auctions each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. By doing so, we reduce the storage time as well as get our vehicles and miscellaneous equipment into the market place where they can receive more buyer interest and better resale value. 1) Unit #21, a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria sedan assigned to the Police Department, Patrol Division, has been replaced by a 2003 Crown Victoria assigned to the Patrol Division. 2) Unit #92, a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria sedan assigned to the Police Department, Patrol Division, has been replaced by a 2003 Crown Victoria assigned to the Patrol Division. 3) Unit #74, a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice assigned to the Police Department, Crime Prevention Division, has been replaced by #123, a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria. 4) Unit #47, a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria assigned to the Police Department, Patrol Supervision, has been replaced by a Ford Crown Victoria 2003. 5) Unit #916, a 1993 Ford one ton dump (with plow and spreader) assigned to the Sewer Division, has been replaced with a 2001 Ford F450 dump with crane, plow and spreader. 6) Unit #681, a 1991 Case loader assigned to the Street Division, has been replaced by a 2003 John Deere loader. is n LJ 7) Two Cress electric kilns which have been stored in the Service Center 2°d floor • warehouse for several years; r1 U r� U • 8) Various office equipment (3 desks, shelving, 7 chairs, 4 tables) which has been stored in the Service Center 2nd floor warehouse for a number of years; 9) One banding machine that has been stored at the Recycling Center and is no longer used; 10) A display case and a metal safe from the ecology center that are no longer used; 11) A Sharp UX-107A fax machine no longer used by Forestry Division; 11) From the former Recycling Center the following items no longer in use: small microwave, soda machine, portable power washer, wet/dry vacum, two 36" floor fans, one small round table and one small refrigerator.
