AN ORDINANCE
Amending Various Sections of Title 3, Chapter 5
of the Evanston City Code Pertaining to Alcoholic Liquor
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON,
COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That Section 3-5-11(D) of the City Code of the City of
Evanston, 1979, as amended, is hereby further amended as follows:
3-5-11: SALES TO MINORS, CERTAIN PERSONS RESTRICTED:
(D) In every place in the City where alcoholic liquor is sold, there shall be displayed at all
times in a prominent place a printed card which shall be supplied by the Liquor
40 Commission and which shall read substantially as follows:
WARNING TO PERSONS UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE
You are subject to a fine of not less than Five Hundred Dollars
($500.00) nor more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) under the
ordinances of the City of Evanston, Illinois, if you consume or possess
alcoholic liquor or misrepresent your age for the purpose of obtaining
or purchasing alcoholic liquor.
Only the following types of identification will be accepted for the
purpose of entering a licensed establishment and/or purchasing or
obtaining alcoholic liquor: vehicle operator's license; State Photo
Identification Card for non -drivers; visa or passport; and military
identification card.
SECTION 2: That Section 3-5-14(B) of the City Code of the City of Evanston,
1979, as amended, is further amended as follows:
3-5-14: AGE RESTRICTIONS; IDENTIFICATION CARDS:
(B) If a licensee or his agents or employees believes or has reason to believe that a
sale or delivery of alcoholic liquor is prohibited because of the nonage of the prospective

recipient, he.shall, before making such sale or delivery, demand presentation of some form
of positive identification. Only the following types of identification shall be accepted for
purposes of entering a licensed establishment and/or purchasing or obtaining alcoholic
liquor: vehicle operator's license; state photo identification card for non -drivers; visa or
passport; and military identification card.
SECTION 3: That Section 3-5-13(D) of the City Code of the City of
Evanston, 1979, as amended, is further amended as follows:
3-5-13: RESPONSIBILITY OF PARENTS AND OTHERS FOR ALCOHOL
CONSUMPTION BY MINORS:
(D) Penalty: Any person found to have committed any of the provisions of this section
shall be fined not less than five hundred dollars ($500.00) nor more than one thousand
dollars ($1,000.00) for each such offense.
SECTION 4: That Section 3-5-14(C) of the City Code of the City of
Evanston, 1979, as amended, is further amended as follows:
3-5-14: AGE RESTRICTIONS; IDENTIFICATION CARDS:
(C) No person shall transfer, alter or deface such an identification card; use the
identification card of another; carry or use a false or forged identification card or obtain an
identification card by means of false information.
No person shall purchase, accept delivery or have possession of alcoholic liquor in
violation of this section. Whoever violates any subsection of Section 3-5-14 shall be
punished by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500.00) nor more than one
thousand dollars ($1,000.00).
SECTION 5: That Section 3-5-17 of the City Code of the City of Evanston,
1979, as amended, is further amended as follows:
3-5-17: PENALTY:
Except as otherwise provided herein, any person violating any provision of this chapter
shall be fined not less than five hundred dollars ($500.00) nor more than one thousand
dollars (1,000.00) for each offense, and a separate offense shall be deemed committed on
each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. 0

SECTION 6: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
SECTION 7: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
