HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-2005-051-O-05• 3/31/2005 51-0-05 AN ORDINANCE Amending Title 31 Sections 3-2-16-2(A) and 3-2-16-7 of the Evanston City Code Increasing the Parking Tax BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That the City Code, 1979, as amended, be and hereby is further amended by deleting Section 3-2-16-2(A) in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following new Section 3-2-16-2(A): 3-2-16-2(A): TAX IMPOSED: • (A) There is hereby levied and imposed upon the use and privilege of parking a motor vehicle in or upon any "parking lot, parking area, or garage", as defined in this Section 3-2-16, in the City, a tax of $0.60 (sixty cents) for each motor vehicle parked in or on each parking lot, parking area, or garage for every twenty-four (24) hour period or any fraction thereof. If a motor vehicle is parked in or on a parking lot, parking area, or garage for which a charge is made on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis, the amount of tax shall be $3.00 (three dollars) per week, $12.00 (twelve dollars) per month, $36.00 (thirty-six dollars) per quarter, or $144.00 (one hundred forty-four dollars) per year. The weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual tax shall not be increased or decreased on account of Saturdays, Sundays, or legal holidays falling within such weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual period, whether or not the motor vehicle is actually parked in or on said parking lot, parking area, or garage on such days. EXCEPTION: The parking tax on monthly permits in City -owned parking garages shall be $18.00 (eighteen dollars) per month. SECTION 2: That the City Code, 1979, as amended, be and hereby is further amended by deleting Section 3-2-16-7 in its entirety and 0 substituting in lieu thereof the following new Section 3-2-16-7: 51-0-05 3-2-16-7: PROCEEDS TO BE PAID INTO TREASURY: All proceeds resulting from the imposition of the tax under this Section 3-2-16, including penalties and interest, shall be paid into the Treasury of the City. SECTION 4: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed SECTION 5: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
