HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-2006-066-O-06• 5/5/2006 66-0-06 AN ORDINANCE Amending Title 7, Chapter 12, Section 7-1, "Rates Established," of the Evanston City Code, 1979, to Change the Rates and Charges to be Paid by Water Takers and Consumers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Title 7, Chapter 12, Section 7-1 of the City Code of the City of Evanston, 1979, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows: 7-12-7-1: RATES ESTABLISHED: The rates and charges to be paid by water takers and consumers for the use of water shall be such as the City Council shall, from time to time, by ordinance prescribe. • On or after July 1, 2006, all water sold, delivered or furnished through meters to consumers within the City shall be paid for by such consumers at the following rates: (A) All consumers of water shall pay a minimum service charge every two (2) months based upon water meter size as follows: 5/8" and 3/4" $ 5.40 1 " $ 10.80 1-1/2" $ 20.20 2" $ 31.80 3" $ 56.00 4" $ 89.70 6" $158.20 8" $267.80 The minimum service charge includes the first five hundred cubic (500 cu.ft.) feet of water consumed during the two (2) -month period for which the minimum is two charge is assessed. Any fractional part of the calendar year less than two (2) months shall be prorated and the proper minimum service charge collected. (B) During the period for which the minimum service charge is assessed, consumers shall pay one dollar and fifty-two cents ($1.52) for each one hundred cubic feet (100 cu.ft.) of water consumed in excess of the first five hundred cubic (500 cu.ft.) feet of water that is included in the minimum service charge. All water passing through a meter shall be charged for, whether used or wasted, and no deductions shall be made for water wasted through defective pipes, fixtures or otherwise. (C) If any water meter ceases to register, stops, or is otherwise out of repair and fails to correctly indicate the water consumed, the Director of Public Works shall estimate from the most reliable data available the quantity of water passing through the meter during such failure and the bill so estimated must be paid by the consumer. (1957 Code, sec. 47-22). SECTION 3: That Title 7, Chapter 12, Section 6-4, "Meter Charges," of the City Code of the City of Evanston, 1979, as amended, is hereby deleted in its entirety. SECTION 4: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 5: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
