Home My WebLink AboutORDINANCES-2007-074-O-07• Effective date August 30, 2007 7/3/2007 74-0-07 AN ORDINANCE Amending Subsection 10-11-16 (B) of the City Code, "Schedule XVI; Designation of Bicycle Routes" WHEREAS, the City of Evanston Comprehensive General Plan ("CGP") states that "where possible, bicycle circulation, already prevalent in Evanston, should be improved through designated bike lanes placed on certain streets"; and WHEREAS, the City of Evanston. Bicycle System Improvement Plan ("Evanston Bike Plan") states that bicyclists in Evanston need more "on - street facilities, including bike lanes where possible and appropriate"; and • WHEREAS, the Goal 6, Objective C, of the City of Evanston Strategic Plan, is to "promote energy -efficient and non -automotive transportation systems, including implementation of the Evanston Bike Plan"; and WHEREAS, Section 10-9-7 of the Evanston City Code of 1979, as amended ("City Code"), provides that "the Traffic Engineer shall, by and with the consent of the City Council, be authorized to designate certain streets or portions thereof as bicycle routes"; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the mandates of the CGP, Evanston Bike Plan, and Strategic Plan, the Traffic Engineer has reviewed the bicycle routes designated in City Code Subsection 10-11-16 (B) and determined that they • should be revised to reflect the map attached hereto and made a part hereof as Exhibit A, 74-0-07 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL • OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Subsection 10-11-16 (B) of the City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: (B) In accordance with the provisions of Section 10-9-7 of this Title, the following streets or portions thereof are hereby designated bicycle routes. SECTION 3: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
