HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1976-088-O-769/24/76 AN .ORDINANCE Amending the Evanston Zoning Ordinance with Reference to Church Parking Requirements WHEREAS, a public hearing was held by the Evanston Zoning Amendment Committee on May 2, 1974, July 11, 1974, and August 1, 1974, to consider the amendment of various portions of the Evanston Zoning Ordinance with reference to church parking requirements, said public hearing having been conducted pursuant to notice published in the manner provided by law;'and WHEREAS, the Evanston Zoning Amendment Committee has reported its find- ings and recommendations to the City Council. of the City of Evanston: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Section VI.B.2.f. of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Evanston, 1960, as amended, be and hereby is further • amended to read as follows: "f..Churches, with the required number of off-street parking spaces to be determined pursuant to the special use provision, as provided by Section X:B.10.1.” SECTION 2: That Section VI.D.2. of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Evanston, 1960, as amended, be and hereby is further amended to read as follows: "2. Special Uses. Special uses allowed in the R2 District, except that the number of off-street parking spaces required for Churches may not be modified in R3, pursuant to the special use procedures." SECTION 3: That the first paragraph of Section X.B.10.1. of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Evanston, 1960, as amended, be and hereby is further amended to read as follows: "1. Church, School, University, or Other Institutional Auditorium. One parking space for each ten seats in the main auditorium or assembly hall. For churches, such required parking spaces may be located on a parking lot which is accessory to another principal use which is not open and operating on Sundays and is located with- in 1,200 feet -of the church, provided that suitable written con- tractual arrangement, approved by the Corporation Counsel, exists for the use of such lot by the church, covering periods of no less than five years. Wsts"._o.n1'y_,the number of off-street parking spaces required for churchos may be reduced, modified or eliminated as part of a special use application, including the acceptance of the availability of alternative parking spaces, or the acceptance of formal or informal arrangements for the use of off-street parking not owned by the church." SECTION 4:_ All ordinances or parts of ordinances and conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 5: This ordinance shall be in full force in effect from and after its passage, publication and approval in the manner provided by law.
