AN ORDINANCE
Amending Section 27-170 of the Motor
Vehicle Code Regarding the Display of��
Inspection Certificates by Motor Vehicles
BE IT ORUAINEU BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY,
ILLINOIS:

*SECTION 1: That Section 27-170 of the Code of the City of Evanston,
1957, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as fol-
"Section 27-170. Uisplay of Certificate.
It small be unlawful for any person to use, maintain, store for purposes
other than sale, park or operate within the City of Evanston any.motor
vehicle registered or required to be registered with the Secretary of
State, State of Illinois, to an address within the corporate limits of
the City of Evanston, unless such vehicle shall display a Certificate of
Inspection as provided in this Article.
Violation of provisions of this Section shall take place when a motor ve-'
hicle, registered or required to be registered with the Secretary of j
State to an Evanston address, shall not have displayed in a prominent
place thereon the Certificate of Inspection issued to the owner thereof
by the Department of Police for either the current inspection period, in
case the same has been issued, or for the immediately preceding period. It
shall be unlawful to transfer a Certificate of .Inspection from one vehicle
to another. A violation of these provisions may take place whether or
not said vehicle is actually in operation on the streets or public ways
of the City. If, at the time of application, a Complaint is pending
charging failure to obtain or display a Certificate of Inspection as pro-
vided in this Article, further prosecution may be avoided by obtaining
said Certificate of Inspection, presenting the Safety Lane Inspection Re-
port Card along with said complaint to the City Collector, and paying the
penal sum of ten dollars ($10.00) to said City Collector. Any person vi-
olating the provisions of this Section shall be punished in one of the
following ways:

a) by a fine in the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00) in the event
that said violator has not secured the required Certificate of In-
spection at the time of his court appearance.
b) by a fine in the amount of ten dollars ($10.00) in the event
that the violator has secured the required Certificate of Inspection
at the time of his court appearance."
SECTION 2: All ordinances or portions of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and publication in the manner
provided by law.
