HomeMy WebLinkAbout072-O-21 Amending Title 2 of the City Code and Codifying the Economic Development Committee6/11/2021 72-0-21 AN ORDINANCE Amending Title 2 of City Code and Codifying the Economic Development Committee NOW BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, THAT: SECTION 1: Title 2 of the Evanston City Code of 2012, as amended ("City Code"), is hereby amended to strike Chapter 16 as follows: CHAPTER 16 — REPEALED AND RENUMBERED SECTION 2: Title 2 of the Evanston City Code of 2012, as amended ("City Code"), is hereby amended to add Chapter 18 which shall read as follows: CHAPTER 18 — ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE. 2-18-1. - PURPOSE. The Citv Council establishes an Economic Development Committee to act in an advisory capacity to the Citv Council on matters relatina to business district redevelopment. 2-18-2. - MEMBERSHIP. The Committee consists of ten (10) members who serve without compensation and are residents in the Citv of Evanston. The members must include the followina: A. Six (6) members who are Aldermen: and B. One (1) member shall be a representative of the Plan Commission: and C. One (1) member shall be a representative of the Zonina Board of Ameals: and D. Two (2) members shall be citizen s-at-larae. Page 2 of 4 72-0-21 2-18-3. - TERM. At-larqe committee members are appointed to three (3) year terms and Aldermen are appointed to four (4) year terms by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. Non-aldermanic members may serve for not more than two (2) full terms. 2-18-4. - POWERS AND DUTIES. In carrvina out its responsibilities, the Committee must: A. Review and make recommendations concernina all redevelopment proposals, provided that nothina herein shall be construed to prevent the sponsor of a reiected proposal from petitioning City Council directly B. Use resource persons for assistance and advice on specific proposals for consideration by the Commiittee C. Gather and disseminate appropriate information reqardinq the economic vitality of the City 2-18-5. - ADOPTION OF RULES: SELECTION OF A CHAIRPERSON. The Commission must elect a Chairperson from amonq its members, with a rotatinq Chair system. The Commission must also adopt rules and requlations necessary to exercise its responsibilities. SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
