NOW BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to sign the Cable Television Franchise Agreement (the "Agreement") by and between the City and Comcast of Illinois IV, Inc. for a seven (7) year term. The Agreement is attached hereto as Exhibit 1 and incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to negotiate any additional conditions or terms of the Agreement with Comcast of Illinois IV, Inc. as may be determined to be in the best interest of the City. SECTION 3: This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval, in the manner provided by law. Livabilitv Benefits: Innovation & Process: Support local government best practices and processes Summarv: In October of 2011 the City entered into a seven (7) year nonexclusive franchise agreement with Comcast to construct and operate a cable system in the public way. In October 2018, the City and Comcast extended this agreement for an additional six (6) months. The City is seeking to enter into a new seven (7) year agreement with Comcast. The new agreement is a non-exclusive franchise agreement that will continue to authorize Comcast to construct and operate a cable system in the public way. The agreement requires Comcast to pay to the City a franchise fee equal to five percent (5%) of annual gross revenues received from the operation of the cable system in the franchise area (city limits). Additionally, the City receives $0.35 cents per month per customer (paid by the customer) to fund public, education and government (PEG) access channels. Attachments: Resolution 42-R-19
