A RESOLUTION
A Resolution in Support of the Passage of the Clean Energy Jobs Act
by the Legislature of the State of Illinois
WHEREAS, in 2016, the State of Illinois passed The Future Energy Jobs
Act (FEJA) allowing the creation of and investment into an equitable and just transition
for a clean and renewable energy future; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, the City of Evanston passed its Climate Action and
Resilience Plan (CARP), which called for 100% renewable energy by 2030 and carbon
neutrality by 2050; and
WHEREAS, in September 2020, the City of Evanston passed Resolution
72-R-20 to Support Environmental Justice, which is a step in addressing the inequities
pointed out in both the Evanston Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP), and the
Illinois Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA); and
WHEREAS, in the spring of 2019, the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA).
S132132/1-1133624 was introduced and aims to achieve for the entire state many of the
same goals enumerated in Evanston's Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP) to
bring these benefits to the entire state; and
WHEREAS, passage of the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) will advance
the efforts of the City of Evanston to achieve the goals we set out in passing our own
Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP),
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COUNTY OF COOK, STATE OF ILLINOIS:

SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Evanston, call on the
Governor of the State of Illinois, and the General Assembly to pass the Clean Energy
Jobs Act and;
SECTION 2: That suitable copies of this Resolution be delivered to
Governor J.B. Pritzker, Illinois Senate President Don Harmon and Illinois House
Speaker Chris Welch.
SECTION 3: Resolution 38-R-21 shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
