• A RESOLUT[ON
Authorizing the City Manager to Submit a Grant Application
to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning
for Transportation Alternatives Program Funds
for a Bike Sharing Pilot Program
WHEREAS, the Transportation Alternatives Program ("TAP") is a federal
program, codified in U.S.C. §§ 213(b) and 101(a)(29), that funds transportation
alternatives, including bicycle facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning ("CMAP")
employs a competitive process to select projects to sponsor with TAP funds; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to file a joint application with the City of
• Chicago and Village of Oak Park for a TAP grant from CMAP to expand a regional bike
• sharing program; and
WHEREAS, receipt of the grant would bring an estimated eighty (80)
bicycles to the City at eight (8) separate stations;
WHEREAS, TAP regulations require that participants match twenty
percent (20%) of their respective project costs; and
WHEREAS, the City's estimated share would be one hundred eight
thousand dollars ($108,000); and
WHEREAS, CMAP must receive all applications no later than August 20,
2013,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
• THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, THAT:

SECTION 1: The City Manager is hereby authorized to sign a joint grant
application with the City of Chicago and Village of Oak Park, for TAP funds from CMAP
to extend a regional bike sharing program to the City of Evanston.
SECTION 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to
negotiate any additional conditions of the grant application as he may determine to be
in the best interest of the City.
SECTION 3: This Resolution 50-R-13 shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
