HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-2010-041-R-10• 0 41-R-10 A RESOLUTION 6/15!2010 Requesting .Assistance from the IEPA In Relation to Potential Environmental Issues at 1600 Foster Street, the Proposed Emerson Square Redevelopment WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to promote the redevelopment of the idle, non -productive industrial site located at the property commonly known as 1600 Foster Street in Evanston (the "Subject Property"); and WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has proposed to utilize a portion of the NSP2 funds received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to develop the Subject Property as the "Emerson Square Redevelopment'; and • WHEREAS, construction of the Emerson Square Development will implement the adopted West Evanston Master Plan and provide new urits of affordable housing; and WHEREAS, before redevelopment of the Emerson Square Redevelopment within the City of Evanston can be undertaken, environmental conditions of the property must be established and addressed; and WHEREAS, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency can assist the City of Evanston in identifying environmental conditions on the Subject Property; and 0 41-R-10 WHEREAS, it is in the interest to ensure that any environmental conditions which may pose a threat to health or the environment of the Subject • Yp J Property be addressed; and WHEREAS, identification of environmental conditions on the above .mentioned property is critical to the future redevelopment of the Subject Property as a potential "Brownfield" -area, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF'EVANSTON, COOK,CO.UNTY,ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That -the foregoing recitals are hereby found as fact and incorporated herein by,reference. SECTION 2: That the City of Evanston hereby requests the assistance and participation of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in any manner to provide for the timely and comprehensive environmental • investigation of the Subject Property in order to seek Brownfield assistance for redevelopment,thereof. SECTION 3: That4his Resolution 41-R-1,0 shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval in the manner .provided by law. Eli eth 'B.
