A RESOLUTION
Designating that Portion of Emerson Street between
Dewey Avenue and Jackson Avenue with the
Honorary Street Name Sign, "Leon Robinson Street"
WHEREAS, Leon Robinson's lifelong dedication to vibrant
community life in the City of Evanston; various business enterprises; his wife,
Josephine Edens Robinson; and his extended family was decisive in creating
an effective and positive force for social change; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 1957, Leon Robinson created a series of
uniquely successful businesses starting with a Mobil Station, followed by the
Better Cab Association, the Robinson Bus Company, and the Robinson Realty
Company dealing with fine properties City-wide; and
WHEREAS, Leon Robinson has always been compassionate
about returning good fortune to the community and, as a member of civic and
community boards including the Iroquois League, Prim Towers, Evanston
Community Hospital, Family Focus, Community Action Agency, and the Foster
Center, could be relied upon to fund projects such as annual Christmas baskets
delivered to the needy, redevelopment of Sunset Cemetery and others; and
WHEREAS, Leon Robinson's business ventures originated on
Emerson Street at Wesley Avenue, later moved up Emerson Street to just
below Dewey Avenue, and remained there for more than fifty years,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL •
OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing recitals are hereby found as fact
and made a part hereof.
SECTION 2: That, on behalf of all citizens of the City of
Evanston, appreciation is hereby expressed for Leon Robinson's numerous vital
contributions to the business, cultural, and spiritual life of the City by
designating that portion of Emerson Street between Dewey Avenue and
Jackson Avenue with a sign bearing the Honorary Street Name, "Leon
Robinson Street."
SECTION 3: That this Resolution 18-R-09 shall be in full force
and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval in the manner 0
provided by law.
