A RESOLUTION
Requesting Assistance from the
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in Relation to Environmental
Issues at Former Industrial Areas Along Oakton Street
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to promote the development of the
Animal Shelter within the City of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, it is a high priority of the City of Evanston to reclaim the
former industrial land along Oakton Street for public use; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston believes City -owned property located at
2310 Oakton Street, and properties located in proximity to this property, to be of
• particular concern due to their historical usage and the fact that they are currently in an
underutilized state; and
WHEREAS, redevelopment options for the Animal Shelter within the City
of Evanston cannot be fully identified until the environmental conditions of the property
have been established; and
WHEREAS, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency can assist the
City of Evanston in identifying environmental conditions on the aforementioned property;
and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to ensure that any environmental
conditions which may pose a threat to health or the environment of the property be
addressed; and

WHEREAS, identification of environmental conditions on the above
mentioned property is critical to the future development of the property as a potential •
"Brownfield" area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That the City of Evanston hereby requests the assistance
and participation of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in any manner to
provide for the timely and comprehensive environmental investigation of the property
located at 2310 Oakton Street in order to seek Brownfield assistance for redevelopment
of the property. s
SECTION 2:. That the foregoing recitals are hereby found as fact and
made a part hereof.

SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after the date of its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
