HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-2000-067-R-00• 6/19/00 67-R-00 A RESOLUTION Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into a Lease With Northwestern University for Valet Parking On Parcel 7 WHEREAS, the City of Evanston previously has utilized "Parcel 6" known as Lot 20 for Public Parking within the Research Park; and WHEREAS, Parcel 6 will be sold for Development; and WHEREAS, Interim Parking is necessary prior to the completion and opening of the Maple Avenue garage, which will be completed in the calendar year 2000; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the best interests of the City of is Evanston and its residents will be served by maintaining parking for the public in the area during construction of the Maple Avenue Garage, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to sign, and the City Clerk hereby authorized and directed to attest on behalf of the City, a lease by and between the City of Evanston, as Lessee, and Northwestern University, as Lessor, for certain property commonly known as Parcel 7 for a term of 6 months at a total rental -rate of $10.00; such Parcel 7 to be used as interim Parking. 0 67-R-00 SECTION 2: That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to negotiate any additional conditions or terms on the leases for aforesaid property as may be determined in the best interest of the City. SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. Adopted: " Z�( 6 , 2000 Mayor • ATTEST: ityglerk • 0 P: • LEASE With Northwestern University for Valet Parking on Parcel 7 THIS INDENTURE made this day of , 2000, by and between Northwestern University, hereinafter referred to as LESSOR, and CITY OF EVANSTON, ILLINOIS, a municipal corporation, hereinafter referred to as LESSEE. WITNESSETH Lessor, for and in consideration of the covenants and agreements • hereinafter mentioned to be kept and performed by Lessee, does hereby lease to Lessee the premises hereinafter described, for a term commencing July 1, 2000, and expiring December 31, 2000. Said premises are to be used by Lessee for parking designated as Lot 20, and are legally described as: 1. Lessee shall have the right to install and maintain at Lessee's expense facilities for valet parking of motor vehicles for a fee and for that purpose Lessee at its expense shall maintain the lot surface, and pavement markings, bumpers, signs, and lot lighting system. Lessee shall pay the costs for furnishing electricity for a lighting system installed by Lessee on the subject premises. Lessee shall • also provide at its cost snow removal and parking enforcement for the subject premises. Lessee shall provide Lessor at no cost permits for parking of motor vehicles by Lessee or its designee in Lot 7. Lessee agrees to furnish Lessor decals for use in identifying vehicles so authorized to park in said area. • 2. Lessee agrees to hold Lessor harmless from any public liability or property damage arising out of or in the course of its operation of said off-street parking facility permitted under the terms of this lease. 3. Lessee agrees to pay as rental for the use of the aforesaid premises the sum of Ten Dollars ($10.00). 4. It is agreed between the parties hereto that the City has entered into an agreement with Systems Parking to upgrade said area as a valet parking. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have executed this lease the date first above written, each being duly authorized for the uses and purposes herein stated.
