HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-2000-034-R-004/18/00 34-R-00 A RESOLUTION Authorizing the City Manager to Execute A Contract With the Chicago Transit Authority for the Purchase of the Property at 860 Chicago Avenue, Evanston, Illinois (Chicago Main Newsstand Property) WHEREAS, the property at 860 Chicago Avenue, commonly known as the Chicago - Main Newsstand located at the southwest corner of Chicago Avenue and Main Street, is owned by the Chicago Transit Authority; and WHEREAS, a one-story commercial building is located on said property; and WHEREAS, the one-story commercial building contains approximately 1351 square feet; and WHEREAS, the property has been vacant since approximately 1993; and WHEREAS, the property is conveniently located to adjacent public transportation; and WHEREAS, it is the best interests of the City that the City purchase said property to further potential development of the site, to preserve and maintain the economic viability of the surrounding neighborhood, and to preserve potential open space; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution 81-R-97 the City Council authorized the City Manager to enter into negotiations with the Chicago Transit Authority for the property at 860 Chicago Avenue; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chicago Transit Authority have had negotiations for the purchase of said property; and 01 1 WHEREAS, the Chicago Transit Authority has agreed pursuant to Ordinance 99-156 0 dated October 18, 1999 to sell the property to the City for $175,000.00 as amended by Ordinance dated April 12, 2000, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That the City shall purchase the property at 860 Chicago Avenue formerly known as the Chicago Main Newsstand for the purchase price of $175,000.00. SECTION 2: That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to sign, and the City Clerk hereby authorized and directed to attest to a Purchase and Sales Agreement for 860 Chicago Avenue. The Agreement shall be substantial conformity with Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. The City Manager is further authorized to negotiate such additional terms to the Agreement as may be in the best interests of the City. SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect following its passage and approval in a manner provided by law. Mayor Ci Che'rk Adopted: ,� G 7 2000 I 2
