HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-2000-026-R-003/31 /00 . 26-R-00 A RESOLUTION Adopting the Chicago Avenue Corridor Recommendations Report WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has an ongoing commitment to enhance neighborhoods through partnerships with residents, businesses, organizations, and institutions; and WHEREAS, the Chicago Avenue Corridor, from and including its intersections with Lake Street and South Boulevard, and with consideration to its relationship to the adjacent residential neighborhoods, was identified as an area for application of an enhanced neighborhood planning process; and WHEREAS, the Chicago Avenue Corridor planning process reflects the participation of the Neighborhood Planning Committee of the Evanston Plan Commission together with neighborhood residents, businesses and commercial property owners and the City of Evanston Internal Planning • Team, all of which have jointly developed and recommended this report; and WHEREAS, a draft of the Chicago Avenue Corridor Recommendations Report was completed in October, 1999, with proposed findings, objectives, and actions that address prioritized issues in the areas of parking, compatible development, tax base enhancement, streetscape improvement and maintenance, traffic management, mass transit and zoning; and WHEREAS, the Chicago Avenue Corridor Recommendations Report emphasizes a comprehensive approach to advance the long-term citywide goal of promoting strong neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, following its review, the Evanston Plan Commission considered the draft Chicago Avenue Recommendations Report at its March 8, 2000 meeting and recommended City Council approval thereof, and WHEREAS, the Planning and Development Committee of the City Council considered the Chicago Avenue Recommendations Report at its March 24, 2000, April 10, 2000, and April 11, 2000 meetings and recommended City Council approval thereof; 0 3/31/00 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: Section 1: That the issues, key findings, objectives, and recommended actions contained in the Chicago Avenue Corridor Recommendations Report marked as Exhibit A, attached hereto, and incorporated by reference are adopted. Section 2: That the City shall consider the Chicago Avenue Recommendations Report in the development of programs, policies, practices, and funding that implement report actions and advance report goals and objectives. Section 3: That ongoing review and evaluation of the Chicago Avenue Corridor Recommendations Report will be undertaken by City Staff for review by the community and the City Council. Section 4: That the City shall ensure implementation by directing the Internal Planning Team to work with the neighborhood residents, businesses and commercial property owners to create an ongoing mechanism for evaluating progress; and establish a reporting mechanism as soon as practicable.
