• Canvassing the Results of the General Election
held on November 5, 1996, and Declaring the
Results of the Referendum
WHEREAS, on the Fifth day of November, 1996, a general election was held in and for
the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois for the purpose of conducting a Referendum to
determine: "Shall the City of Evanston increase its per network connection 911 emergency
telephone system surcharge from $.75 to $1.50, an increase of $.75 per month per network
connection, which surcharge will be added to the monthly bill received for telephone or
communications charges for the purpose of maintaining and improving the present enhanced 911
emergency telephone system;" and
WHEREAS, said general election was regularly called in the manner provided by law;
and
WHEREAS, the official Canvassing Board consists of the Mayor, The City Clerk and
the City Attorney for the City of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, the official Canvassing Board, having been duly notified by the City Clerk
to canvass the vote in the Referendum on November 11, 1996, reports that it has canvassed the
vote with respect to said referendum and the results are as follows:

The canvassing Board, therefore finds that the referendum "Shall the City of Evanston increase
its per network connection 911 emergency telephone system surcharge from $.75 to $1.50, an
increase of $.75 per month per network connection, which surcharge will be added to the
monthly bill received for telephone or communications charges for the purpose of maintaining
and improving the present enhanced 911 emergency telephone system" has been approved by
the voters by a vote of 16,865 yes and 7,340 no.

The Canvassing Board submits the foregoing report as a complete return and canvass of the •
results of the votes cast in the General Election on November 5, 1996, on the referendum.
